Dominik Klauser, born in Munich, is a German violist. In his artistic work, he explores a broad spectrum of the musical world, ranging from contemporary music to historical performance practice. After studying violin in Weimar and Bern, he furthered his studies with viola under the tutelage of Patrick Jüdt and baroque viola with Meret Lüthi and Gertrud Weinmeister at the Bern University of the Arts, where he graduated in 2021 with a Master's degree in Specialized Music Performance Soloist.
In 2020, Dominik performed as a soloist with the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kaspar Zehnder, interpreting Frank Martin's Ballade for viola and orchestra. He has also performed at renowned festivals such as the Swiss Chamber Music Festival Adelboden and the Festival Musikdorf Ernen. As a member of the Gardan Quartet, he was awarded a distinction at the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition in 2017. In December 2022, he and his colleagues founded the Aventurin Quartet, which is part of the musician network Le Dimore del Quartetto. In August 2023, they accepted the invitation to be ensemble in residence at the GUIMARÃES CLÁSSICO Festival in Portugal.
In the field of contemporary music, Dominik has participated in productions by Collegium Novum Zurich, Ensemble Phoenix Basel and the Wien Modern festival. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Basel Sinfonietta, a symphony orchestra specializing in contemporary music. As a baroque violist in the Prospero Consort, Dominik has been giving regular concerts throughout Europe since 2019, including performances at the International Bach Festival Schaffhausen and the Varaždin Baroque Evening Festival in Croatia. Dominik is a substitute member of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and holds a position at the argovia philharmonic since November 2023.
